Introducing node&norm
AI-assisted decisions need more than an assurance of human oversight. They need evidence that people can question, direct and correct what happens.
Read the introductionHuman control is a continuing responsibility: to examine decisions, act on concerns and establish what happened.
How the motion is constructed
The continuous ribbon is a visual metaphor for responsibilities that continue after a decision. Its turn invites another view; the citron thread gives the eye a path through that change. For node&norm, evidence, human judgment, action and correction belong in the same account. The research asks whether people can question, direct and correct what happens, and what evidence would establish the effects.
A ribbon makes one half-turn before joining itself. The resulting Möbius surface has one continuous side and one boundary. Fine lines follow its length; straight cross-lines reveal the twist. A citron thread traces the center as the whole form turns gently in space.
The surface is S(u,v) = ((148 + v cos(u/2)) cos u, (148 + v cos(u/2)) sin u, v sin(u/2)), with 0 ≤ u ≤ 2π and −54 ≤ v ≤ 54. Two gentle rotations follow sine and cosine over 32 seconds. A perspective projection and depth ordering give the lines their sculptural form.
These are drawing rules, separate from the research methods. Pause or move the slider to examine the form. Reduced-motion preferences start it still; the same drawing remains available without animation.
